Great Tit

SEXING:

After the post juvenile moult, sexing Great Tits is generally straight forward, but a few percent are more intermediate and should be left unsexed.

Male, March. Note broad black band in side of neck as well as well developed gloss in the black crown and chin. [2KR44242]

Female, March. Narrow black band in side of neck and less gloss in black crown and chin. [2KR44241]

Male, October. The black band across underside is wide and glossy black. In most males it ends up in a wider black patch on the rear belly. [82072641]

Female, March. The dark band is narrower and the rear belly lacks black patch. [2KS80287]
