Acrocephalus scirpaceus - spring

European Reed Warbler

AGE – BEST CRITERIA:

Not possible to age due to complete pre-breeding moult in both age classes. A variation in wear may be seen in spring migrating birds, probably best explained by differentiated (or prolonged) periods of moult during winter. Colour of iris less reliable due to development in 2cy birds.

2cy+ May. Whole wing is pre-breeding. [CV04333]

2cy+ May. Whole tail is pre-breeding. [CS02496]

2cy+ May, showing pre-breeding PC. [CV04333]

2cy+ May. Uniform pre-breeding TT. [CV03543]
