MOULT

                     Adult         Young

Summer       SC              sp

Winter           –                 –

Young sp: The post-juvenile moult includes the body, LC, MC and usually the inner 2-5 GC (but range may well vary from 0 to 10 moulted GC, although the extremes are rather rare). Single or all TT are sometimes included, and the most advanced birds also include single SS. Note that the post-juvenile moult in the Black Redstart is conducted much later than in most other small thrushes – often not until three months of age – when youngsters already have spread far from the breeding grounds (see e.g. Andersson [2013]).
Adult SC: The post-breeding moult includes the whole plumage.

Number of GC included in the post-juvenile moult shown as percentage of 1cy birds at Ottenby 2000-2013 (n=39).
